Working on film!!!
Hello all. Its been a while since I posted and its all due to me working on my film. Making a film is the hardest obstacle i have yet faced. In fact, it is about a million times harder than i thought it was going to be. But I guess all seems easy until you try it. Anyway, i thought I would take a rest and do some watercolor today. I'll post some more watercolor stuff later. Oh and incase your wondering, the above drawing is not for my film.

Life drawing with a twist # 2

Here are some more imaginative life drawings(or so I hope). This session on Saturday mornings are specifically for us animators. The model would pick a character to be and act like it. And trust me, she was great. She had plenty of great attitude. This session's model character was a dancing show girl getting ready for her big day. These type of poses really allow me to push a fun story. I love this type of drawing. The bottom ones were drawn live, but colored in photoshop.

Smelly Critters

As you might have guessed I really love my character design class. Especially because all we do in there is draw, draw, draw. All of these sketches were not done at my cubicle alone and recluse, but with some reference drawings in character design class with my fellow classmates. Feeding off of my classmates energy is such a great way to inspire me.

An amazing experience
As far as the picture above goes, I am so pleased and extremely grateful to say that i was invited to talk on a panel about one of my greatest influences ever, Ronald Searle. And get this, the people that were on the panel with me were none other than James Baxter, John Musker and Matt Jones(who actually met Ron Searle in person). It was so humbling to talk next to three amazing artists like these guys. As far as the actual event goes it went great, and i was told that I didn't make a huge ass out myself, which i thought i would. CTN was such a great convention and I hope it repeats itself next year. If they ever read this I would especially like to thank Rik Maki and Tina Price for the opprotunity. You guys are great!

Life drawing with a twist

I did these series of drawings to try and put some story into the poses the model was doing for us the other day. The model's poses were very primal and full of action, so I thought I would draw him as an Indian brave fighting off cowboys or something. It was a lot of fun.

You know, sometimes life drawing could really have it's ups and downs. Sometimes when I'm really feeling I'm drawing the model well, the next day I'm at my cube trying to think up a character or a story and I completely blank out. It's like my imagination has been drained. This is why I am trying to do more life drawings with a twist. Add a story or a cool expression. Feed imagination instead of making it numb. Draw verbs instead of nouns. Stuff like that. Not just exaggerate the model for the sake of a cool composition or illustration. That may look beautiful, but where does it go from there? I hope to let loose and go even more into my imagination next time I'm life drawing. By the way, the model was wearing the costumes I drew in the above drawings. Aside from a few accessories I made up. But nevertheless, it always pays to have a good model.
